This is a stark reminder that no system is truly “safe by default,” even legacy drivers embedded across all Windows versions can become escalation traps. The fact that one zero-day targets a component present on every Windows install underscores how attackers are now mining assumptions in system design, not just bugs. Prioritizing patching (especially KEV-listed flaws) and rethinking the security posture of “built-in” components has never been more critical.

Don’t walk into a board meeting and start talking about Kubernetes upgrades or sprint velocity. No one cares—especially not your PE firm. Translate every tech initiative into a financial outcome. Will it reduce cloud spend? Increase gross margin? Lower churn? That’s the language that matters. If you can’t connect your work to dollars, you're wasting everyone’s time. They’ll smile, nod, and start planning your replacement. You’re not there to represent engineering. You’re there to prove that engineering is making the company more valuable. Make it about money, or don’t bother speaking.
