If discovery becomes abundant, the next bottleneck won't be finding answers. It will be: Wisdom, knowing which discoveries to act on, in what order, with what values guiding the choices. this is a very exciting time to be alive. I find myself thinking, you poor soul, you really haven't the slightest idea what's happening to you.Dr. Joe Shepherd shared thisKarpathy said something on X last week that I keep coming back to. AI users have split into two populations. One tried free ChatGPT last year. Formed an opinion. Moved on. Ethan Mollick has said the same. One runs Claude Code and Codex all day. Sees something completely different. They are not debating the same technology. And the gap between them widens every month. Most people call this a skills problem. From where I sit that is the wrong diagnosis. This is a compounding access gap. The people deep in current tools aren’t just more informed - they’re operating at a fundamentally different capability level. And the advantage compounds every week they stay ahead. The people who tried a chatbot once? They’re writing procurement requirements and setting strategy based on a snapshot that expired 14 months ago. They think they understand what they’re dismissing. They don’t. In your organization right now, someone is making a strategic bet on AI based on a 2023 demo. Someone else is running production workflows on tools two generations past that. Those two people cannot have a productive conversation about strategy. They are not looking at the same thing. This is the access gap at the center of The Invisible Interface (June 2026). Dr. Joe Shepherd posted thisWeekly AI Digest Boards and sponsors are no longer asking “should we do AI?” – the question is whether they can govern the agents they’re already funding. The patterns are getting clearer: ➡️ Agentic systems are where failures now surface: not from “bad models,” but from context loss, missing lineage, and inconsistent reasoning across multi-agent workflows. Leading teams are quietly building system-level intelligence assurance – shared memory, validation loops, confidence thresholds, and evidence chains – so AI decisions can be audited with the same discipline as financial controls. ➡️ Architecture and data are the new bottlenecks. Agentic AI is starting to sit inside enterprise architecture governance, continuously scanning designs against security and standards rather than waiting for quarterly ARBs. At the same time, privacy-preserving patterns like SplitAgent are emerging to split brains between cloud and enterprise, using context-aware sanitization and privacy budgets instead of blunt “no cloud” rules. ➡️ Capital is flowing to governed leverage, not raw model exposure. Tech and AI deal value has rebounded, but PE is focusing on data centers, energy-linked AI infrastructure, cybersecurity, and AI-powered CX/analytics platforms with clear recurring revenue. Licensing and joint ventures are becoming the preferred tools to access capabilities while navigating valuation and regulatory friction. ➡️ Governance posture is becoming a pricing factor. Recent board surveys show that having a formal AI policy and clear accountability is already differentiating governance “leaders” in the eyes of investors. Treating AI as delegated labor – with decision rights, trust tiers, and accountability explicitly defined – is proving more actionable than treating AI as “just software” under legacy IT governance. For PE operating partners and portfolio leadership, the practical move is to stop treating AI as a sidecar initiative and instead ask three simple questions in every board pack: Who owns the outcomes the agents are producing? How do we know their decisions are traceable and within policy? And where, exactly, in our architecture and data estate are we investing to make that governance real, not theatrical?

Not the first time this has happened, and it won’t be the last. A little history… In the late ’70s and early ’80s, tech journals confidently predicted that the humble compiler would eliminate the need for programmers. (Quite humorous in retrospect…but quite a concern at the time) In the mid‑to‑late ’80s, the same claims resurfaced with “4GL” tools. Then again with DSS systems and the Lisp‑era expert‑system boom. And then the “.com” bubble and all of the incredible growth that can after with could computing. Yes—each generation of advancement insists “this time is different.” And it will be. But humans will still be needed. What will change is the volume, accessibility, and economics of software creation. Failing to adapt as a software engineer or as a software company is the risk—-not the technology of AI. Don’t be the assembly programmer who refused to embrace the compiler….

The signal from every conversation was clear: AI in media has moved from experimentation into production, and success now depends on governance. Broadcasters and content owners want to unlock the value in their archives with AI — while staying fully in control of rights, compliance, provenance, and trust. That's exactly where Ceivo fits: making media libraries AI-ready, fully governed, and ready for confident monetisation. We were proud to be featured on the Signiant booth and to see such a strong reception from customers and partners who immediately connected with the need for governed AI workflows. The challenge is no longer just finding content faster — it's ensuring the right content can be used in the right way, with the right permissions. Working alongside partners like TwelveLabs, we showed how semantic search and AI-driven metadata become exponentially more valuable when governance is built in from day one. The alignment with Amazon Web Services (AWS) — around agentic AI, archive monetisation, and human-in-the-loop guardrails — was equally exciting. NAB confirmed what many already believed: the future of AI in media isn't just smarter automation. It's trusted automation. Huge thanks to everyone who visited, challenged, and inspired us. Our Dallas AI Advisory Roundtable on November 19th is now at capacity. We’ve designed this session for senior leaders who are navigating the gap between AI’s promise and the operational realities inside complex enterprises. The discussion will focus on the issues that consistently shape AI outcomes: the single bottleneck you would remove if AI worked flawlessly tomorrow; the promising initiatives that stalled internally and the root causes; and the high-cost, unsolved industry problems that should already have AI solutions but don’t. Wynne and Lillian Derr June 24, 2025 Artificial intelligence (AI), like many technologies before it, offers the potential to improve people’s living standards. Such advances can be approximated by changes in gross domestic product (GDP) per capita over time—the rate of change in the amount of output per person. Chart 1 shows GDP per capita from 1870 to 2024 along with scenarios, some of them extreme, depicting what could happen to living standards between now and 2050.

I love Bryan’s insight: AI doesn’t change who you are as an engineer—it amplifies it. If you’ve built a foundation with automated acceptance testing, trunk-based development, and CI discipline, AI will multiply your productivity and quality. On the flip side, if your engineering practices are weak, AI will amplify that too. Garbage in, garbage out. The future isn’t just about adopting AI—it’s about pairing it with solid engineering fundamentals. AI is not going to let us skip out on the fundamentals.
