Snodgrass Tennessee Tower in Nashville. Leaders from private institutions across the state came together with members of the Tennessee General Assembly and other state officials to talk about the future of higher education in Tennessee. Remarks were shared from Governor Bill Lee and other key legislative leaders, creating space for meaningful conversations around policy, workforce development, and how independent colleges continue to serve students and communities across the state. It was exciting to see so many presidents, board members, and civic leaders in one room, all focused on making sure our institutions keep delivering real impact. We gathered to celebrate Mexico in New York, right before Cinco de Mayo. More than 100 guests. Diplomats, CEOs, artists, journalists, academics, authors. 50% Mexican, 50% American. All in one room, talking about why Mexico matters. Not just culturally, but in every possible way. We had Ambassador Porfirio Thierry Muñoz Ledo, Consul Lic. Marcos Augusto Bucio Mújica, and cultural affairs director Liliana Saldaña. The CEO of Fannie Mae. People from The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Museum of Modern Art. The hospitality and media worlds. All there for the same reason. And the conversation was extraordinary. Professor Paul Gillingham spoke about his book on 500 Years of Mexican History. Bret Stephens reminded us that in the 1920s, Paris was not the center of the world. Mexico was. And we need to say that out loud more often. And what did we serve? Sotol Romo, of course. Because if you are going to celebrate Mexico at that level, what's in your glass has to match. Sotol Romo is the next big category after tequila and mezcal, and that room understood it immediately. This is what I love about New York. You can bring together the most powerful people in one room, and they will all show up for culture, for history, for a country that deserves so much more recognition than it usually gets. The conversation wasn’t about agriculture or natural capital as an asset class. It was about how family offices actually allocate capital. Because what drives allocation isn’t just opportunity, it’s mindset, values, time horizon, and generational thinking. Across the discussion, one thing became clear: Family offices are not simply underwriting returns. They are underwriting continuity. How capital is preserved. How it compounds. How it transfers across generations without losing intent. The shift from “this is interesting” to “we are allocating” is rarely driven by the asset itself. It’s driven by: - alignment of values - strength of relationship - clarity of downside - and confidence that the opportunity holds up beyond a single cycle And when capital does move, it reflects something deeper: A view on legacy. What also came through clearly was how impact is considered, not as a separate lens, but embedded in allocation itself. For Kamil Homsi, impact isn’t an overlay - it’s inherent. Every investment is considered in the context of its broader effect on society. For Nazar "Nick" Nazarov, particularly in housing, the approach is community-first, local engagement, long-term value, and quality of living take precedence over short-term optimisation. The United Arab Emirates. Here is the transition most people miss. The UAE did not become a gold hub by accident. It built an ecosystem designed for speed, trust, and scale. Three forces explain how it happened. → Geography. The UAE sits between Asia, Europe, and Africa. These three regions drive a massive share of global gold supply and demand. That position turns the country into a natural bridge for the precious metals trade. Gold can move from mines to refineries to global markets with fewer logistical barriers. → Infrastructure. Dubai invested heavily in trading platforms, refineries, logistics networks, and financial services. The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre now hosts more than 20,000 companies.
