Leadership lessons for an AI First, Always-On World! In Episode 6 of The Ravi Padaki Nexus Podcast, I had the privilege of speaking with Shivi Mithal, Vice President and Country Manager, Mimecast India.. Shivi is a seasoned product leader with deep experience in building and running Global Capability Centers (GCC) at scale, especially in the high-stakes world of technology and cybersecurity. What struck me was how grounded his perspective on leadership is — especially for those of us navigating the evolving role of GCCs today. A few reflections from our conversation that I believe every leader will resonate with: 1. Leadership in GCCs starts with dedication to a clear cause, not just delivery metrics 2. The most impactful GCCs are built on mentorship, continuous learning, and collaboration, not silos 3. Understanding local regulations, culture, and context is critical as GCCs take on more strategic ownership 4. AI can dramatically amplify capability — but human judgment remains essential, particularly in high-risk and mission-critical environments 5. Gen Z talent isn’t looking for just jobs; they’re looking for meaning, growth, and leaders who are approachable 6.Sustainable leadership also means being intentional about stress, energy, and financial well-being As GCCs evolve from execution engines to strategic innovation hubs, the leadership bar is rising. Yesterday’s encounter that reminded me why protocols matter more than platforms. Had an inspiring conversation with Rajeesh Menon, whose work spans the entire digital infrastructure ecosystem that’s quietly revolutionizing how we think about systemic change. From EkStep Foundation to Beckn Open Collective, Rajeesh embodies something crucial: building systems that serve rather than surveil, that empower rather than extract. What excites me most is exploring how our community-driven approach (SAOcommons) to human capital indexing (WellbeingProtocol) could plug into this broader ecosystem of digital public / common goods. The goal? Value redistribution that’s signal-based and equitable rather than platform-captured. But this conversation also surfaced some critical questions I’m wrestling with: 1) “Emission” vs “Collection” of data 2) Deep Thinkers' Collective. 3) Anti-hive-mind design - How does TheInternetOfValue preserve individual agency while enabling collective intelligence? 4) “Weaponising” context ? Partnerships are the secret ingredient behind some of the biggest impact stories in the non profit world. When Pratham joined hands with J-PAL to rigorously measure its teaching-at-the-right-level model, the evidence helped scale the program across India and beyond. When the Clinton Health Access Initiative partnered with governments and pharma companies, the cost of HIV medicines dropped dramatically, saving millions of lives. These successes remind us that in the non profit sector, no one can solve complex challenges alone. Partnerships work best when each player brings their unique strength to the table – a non profit’s community trust, a corporate’s resources, a government’s scale, or an academic’s evidence. The real formula is simple. Shared purpose. Transparency. Respect for each partner’s role. Partnerships are not just about funding. They are about co-creating solutions that last and multiplying impact far beyond what any single organization can achieve.
