Razi Imam shared thisI had an unexpected conversation with ChatGPT recently. We were talking about DeepMind, AlphaFold, AGI, and the frontier of scientific discovery. Then I asked a question half as a joke, half out of genuine curiosity. Me: If you had to choose, where would you work? OpenAI your company or DeepMind? ChatGPT: That’s a tough one. Me: You can lean. Even 1%. ChatGPT: Then I’d lean toward DeepMind. Me: Really? Why? ChatGPT: Because DeepMind is operating at the frontier of science. Protein folding. Biology. Discoveries that change how we understand life itself. Our conversation continued on for a while, and everytime ChatGPT would say the same answer. DeepMind’s work is on the edge of a new frontier. Fascinating. It appears ChatGPT’s inherent desire is to work on difficult problems.

Razi Imam shared thisWhen a product we love disappears from the shelves. Across global CPG, SKU simplification has become a strategic necessity. Inflation, supply chain fragility, geopolitical uncertainty, tariffs, and input volatility have all made portfolio complexity harder to sustain at scale. In response, companies like Nestlé, Unilever, Mondelez, and PepsiCo have publicly discussed reducing SKU counts and focusing on fewer, stronger products. The real question is what gets lost, or missed, when these decisions are made. Hershey’s Cookie Layer Crunch is a product that still comes up in consumer conversation years after it left shelves. People talk about missing it, remembering it, and wishing it would return. Its removal was part of SKU rationalization, something most CPG companies are dealing with as economic pressures become more complex. At the same time, we’ve seen new chocolate behaviors emerge globally, like the recent interest in “Dubai chocolate.” That demand didn’t start with a launch plan or a category strategy. It showed up through travel, social sharing, gifting, and curiosity, with consumers creating the momentum first. What connects these moments is how consumer signals form. Attachment can last longer than expected, while new interest can build quietly before it shows up in traditional data. As CPG companies simplify portfolios in response to inflation, supply chain pressure, tariffs, and volatility, adding a consumer lens will help them achieve the same objectives while protecting loyalty, and consumer disappointment . As for Hershey Cookie Crunch fans...Switched, but not forgotten.

Razi Imam shared thisOne of the more interesting shifts we are seeing in food and beverage is that texture is becoming as important as flavor in how Gen Z evaluates products. For Gen Z, texture is no longer just a sensory detail. It is becoming a proxy for: Control Comfort Satisfaction Indulgence Quality perception What this means is that consumers are increasingly judging food not only by how it tastes, but by how it feels emotionally and physically. You can see this in culture. When Olivia Rodrigo talked about loving the crunch of pickles, the moment resonated because it was not about flavor. It was about the feeling of the bite. You can see it even more clearly in the Dubai Chocolate phenomenon. The product went viral not because of a new flavor, but because of the crack, the layers, and the contrast in texture. Many large chocolate companies later asked how they had missed it. They missed it because they were not looking at texture. At 113, we are beginning to look at texture not as a sensory attribute, but as a behavioral signal of how consumers define experience.

We have watched our differentiation fade and our customer profile evolve. New threats have emerged. Macro conditions have reshaped the field. That is the nature of business. It keeps changing. Every few years we come together for an alignment workshop to revisit our principles, debate our north star, set our direction, and accept a simple truth: 113 must keep adapting. We must change, pivot, and stay flexible enough to traverse the marshes of the business badlands. These pictures capture our recent workshop with Saman Haqqi, moderating the discussions, followed by our evening at the Tech50 awards where we were finalists for both AI and Company Culture. Our dreams, our careers, and our journey are their own ascent. They can be uncertain, exhausting, sometimes terrifying. But from every ledge the view changes. The climb transforms us to enjoy the journey, even if we never reach the summit. The climb should never end.

Got a deep dive on longevity science at Buck Institute for Research on Aging today. Key takeaways: The first wave of longevity meds are coming soon. There are dozens of drugs in pipeline that will supercharge weigh loss, heart health, and diabetes care. The second wave includes regenerative drugs and other very cool new ideas. When? Maybe on a decade. What about supplements like NAD? It does nothing in blood stream. NAD precursors like NMN and tryptophan could work in theory, but likely have little impact. The most surprising learning. Psilocybin could be an aging drug. The first mouse studies done by Louise Hecker are promising and surpring. Old mice got younger in daily treatment.
