Peter Roybal reposted thisPeter Roybal reposted this33 cities with 468 participants across NY, SF, and London. One night that redefined conversational AI, paired with Anam’s interactive AI avatars. The largest-ever Worldwide Hackathon by ElevenLabs just wrapped, and what happened in New York, San Francisco, and London with Anam's interactive avatars was incredible. Teams deployed custom Anam Personas, combining ElevenLabs' voice technology with our photorealistic AI tech to create conversational agents that felt genuinely human. With five winning teams across cities using Anam within their builds, the overall winning moment was in NYC, which was built by Peter Roybal, Jesús A., Pratham M., and Tamba Monrose, aka “The A-Team”, who deployed an interactive AI Santa just in time for the holidays. Our CEO, Caoimhe Murphy, judged incredible projects in New York alongside global judges Mati Staniszewski from ElevenLabs, Eric Simons from Bolt, and industry titans from Anthropic, Stripe, and BLACKBOX.AI. Thank you to every builder who pushed the boundaries of what's possible, and to the fellow sponsors who made this possible. This is how the future of human-AI interaction gets built, together. Links to the winning demos using Anam are in the comments below.

Peter Roybal shared thisPeter Roybal shared thisThis week's guest on the #NYTReadalong is none other than Steffen Kaplan (aka @SpinitSocial), a social media and visual strategist. He is a former photo editor for The New York Times and documented the New York City Police Department for 10 years. Every week I host the Sunday #NYTReadalong on Facebook Live. We review and discuss the Sunday print edition of The New York Times, focusing on the big stories, the ads, graphic design, photos and layout. We will cover all of our favorite sections including The Ethicist column, the Weekly Poem and more. Everyone shoots pictures. @SpinitSocial makes magic. Big thanks to Neil Parekh for guest hosting the past few weeks and for Paula Kiger and Steve Taylor for helping with production duties. While I was gone, Facebook stopped letting users bring on remote guests, leading Neil to start using StreamYard to livestream the show. Takes our production to a whole new level! Thank you to Bombay Shirt Company for your support of the #NYTReadalong.

Peter Roybal reacted on thisPeter Roybal reacted on thisI’m excited (and grateful) to share that I’ve joined Automattic as VP of Product, Advertising & Media. With 43% of the web powered by #Wordpress and 4M stores on WooCommerce (alongside platforms like Tumblr), Automattic sits at the heart of the open internet. What drew me in is the chance to build something new here—helping creators, entrepreneurs, and small businesses grow their audience and revenue in a way that’s transparent and open. I’ve always loved building 0→1, and this felt like a rare opportunity to do that at massive scale with an OG internet brand. A special thanks to the many people who shared advice, perspective, and encouragement throughout this journey. Thank you to Paul Maiorana, Matt Mullenweg, Mark Davies, Pedraum Pardehpoosh, Julia Wilson and Beau Lebens for bringing me on—and to the Automattic team for such a welcoming start. Excited to build together. (Photo of me crashing AI Enablement week at our NoHo office)

Peter Roybal reacted on thisI’ve been working on building a social media ecosystem that was based on fundamental user rights to a digital commons with open protocols and open source technologies for the last 8 years. It’s incredibly exciting to see divine take off.Peter Roybal reacted on thisIt would be easy to look at what we're doing at Divine, and think "oh, it's just a Vine reboot"... but that would be missing the a key point of our vision which is about restoring creative power back into human hands. 👐 What Melissa Fleur Afshar has done so well in this story for Newsweek is explain that to accomplish this, at Divine we are changing the fundamental foundation that social media apps have been built on by using an open protocol, Nostr. ⛓️💥 "It is a decentralized infrastructure on which developers can build competing and compatible apps without seeking permission from any central company. That philosophy is a direct corrective to how Henshaw-Plath (Rabble Evan Henshaw-Plath) and Dorsey made Twitter, by building a corporation instead of an internet protocol... 'The move is something that Dorsey, now 49, calls a founding mistake." While the classic Vines and joy scrolling is what will bring people to Divine, we hope they will stay for the freedom from the walled gardens the likes of Meta and TikTok have so carefully built. Share your thoughts in the comments. https://lnkd.in/gsp68PdRVine's successor is here, and it wants to save social media from itselfVine's successor is here, and it wants to save social media from itself

I'll be editing congressional coverage for the fastest-growing newsroom in Washington and spending more time on Capitol Hill. Can't wait to get started. I am also grateful for 3.5 good years at Bloomberg Government - and I will miss the wonderful reporters I worked with on the Congress team.

Peter Roybal liked thisPeter Roybal liked thisWe’re in a true expansionary moment with AI. As people realize that Google can handle their real questions – no matter how specific or complex – they ask even more of them. Some insights we shared on today's Alphabet Earnings call: 1️⃣ AI is broadening what people ask. We’re seeing AI Overviews continue to drive overall Search growth, AI Mode users and usage growing, and Search queries at an all-time high! 2️⃣ Search is becoming more intelligent, personalized, and agentic. Personalization is making Search more helpful than ever, and we’ve been shipping more agentic and multimodal capabilities to help people really get stuff done. 3️⃣ Google Maps got its most significant upgrade of the past decade (...maybe of all time?!) with Gemini. If you haven’t tried Ask Maps and Immersive Navigation, you’re missing out! 4️⃣ Our Gemini models are also fundamentally transforming advertising: helping us improve ads quality and relevance; enhance campaign tools like AI Max; and reinvent ads formats for our new AI experiences. 5️⃣ It’s also been amazing to see the ecosystem come together with the open-source Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). We recently welcomed new members to the UCP Tech Council (s/o to Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Salesforce, Stripe who joined founding members Shopify, Etsy, Target, Wayfair, Google), and have been really encouraged to see several partners start rolling out UCP in action! So much progress, still just beginning… a huge thank you to our teams building the future. 🚀

Is your team disagreeing on details like implementation or scoping decisions? Maybe the disagreement really stems from: * Lack of a shared strategy * Lack of shared understanding of that strategy * Misaligned goals * Different time horizons * Lack of a shared decision-making framework My first instinct is often to concentrate on explaining all of my reasoning in detail, but I'm trying to be better about zooming out and stating my assumptions and values more clearly.

Love this - AI is the Oppenheimer moment for marketing. It fundamentally collapses the time and cost of production. A $2.5 million campaign that used to take four months can now be delivered for $500,000 in four weeks. Legacy firms that charge based on hours with the 'time-driven' model are existentially threatened by this.

Leaders from the Massachusetts AI Coalition are working with their teams to drive impact across the Commonwealth. Here's a quick update for those interested in following along. - Beacon Taskforce: A Founder Starter Pack is being assembled from the feedback of 30+ founders. Consistent themes are present (fast/flexible capital, free work space, GPU credits, connections to founders/operators), making consistent solutions testable. Excited for the first Founder Starter Pack to go live in early H1. - Tavern Taskforce: Tomorrow's event is ON. Excited for Luke Winston-Almanzar, Co-Founder & CEO of Reservoir, Ryan Jacobs, Co-Founder & CEO of Agency Robotics, and Shilpi Gupta, Founder & CEO of her company will be speaking on the "Industrial AI Builders Panel." - Banners Taskforce: Heads down. Cranking away. Working on a launch of our first big initiative on April 1st. Remember folks: The weather in New England is a feature, not a bug. 😉

I was at Config San Francisco last week and got to witness firsthand how Figma and its passionate community have evolved. Check out this post on what I saw and what it signals—AI starting to find its place in real workflows, and designers increasingly playing a role as system architects while the gap between design and development continues to narrow.

Excited to share what Manny E. Reimi, Paul Reed and I have been working on at Escape Velocity Labs! We're introducing Depura, — a no-code, evaluation-driven platform that empowers anyone, regardless of technical background, to directly shape and improve their own #AI models. No #MLOps stack. No specialist skills. Just real expertise driving real model behavior. To me, this is what “open” AI should mean: people with judgment, experience, and domain knowledge finally being able to teach models how their world actually works. More coming soon — but for now, please do check out the launch and our Design Partner Program! Follow us for more updates as we continue on this journey 💪

Is there an AI bubble? This was the subject of the latest Oaktree Capital memo and a popular topic during the holiday break. While many people focus on gut feelings or connections to the late 1990s, Howard Marks takes a historical approach and effectively frames this time in the context of other historical moments, financial markets, and as an investor. His postscript also provides his perspective on the societal impact of AI taking on more jobs. This is a worthwhile read for anyone interested in understanding the pros and cons of an AI bubble. https://lnkd.in/gGpqdVZ8
