While many parts of the country are seeing hiring slowdowns, the Upstate SC market is proving to be the exception—showing strong momentum and new opportunities across multiple industries. 📈 Here’s what’s happening right now in the Upstate job market: Record-breaking growth: South Carolina ranks #2 in the nation for job growth, with big gains in construction, healthcare, and business services. The blue-collar comeback: Manufacturing and skilled trades are booming, offering steady and well-paying roles. Population surge: Nearly 350K new residents since 2020 are fueling demand for housing, healthcare, and services. Talent on hand: The Upstate has a workforce of nearly 750K, with 465K prime-age workers (25–54 years old). Diverse industries: From advanced manufacturing to international headquarters, our region continues to attract investment and talent. Economic resilience: With 4.1% unemployment and 6.9% GDP growth in 2024, the state’s economy remains strong. ✨ Bottom line: While the national headlines may suggest a slowdown, Upstate SC is charging forward—and both companies and candidates should be paying attention.

Capital One is cutting nearly 400 jobs as the credit card company streamlines operations following its purchase of Discover Financial Services. The company filed notice with the state today of its latest plan for layoffs, the second announced in the past month. The cuts include 382 jobs related to the Discover deal. Capital One also recently filed with the state for a further 10 job cuts from the shuttering of Discover’s student loan business, which was announced before the acquisition. https://archive.fo/xZIk7

**𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗞𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲** In our weekly regional calls, our Regional SVP, Dan Mullen, always asks those celebrating a service anniversary to share a piece of advice with the rest of the region. As I celebrate my four-year milestone with Kforce Inc, I wanted to share four personal insights that have helped me along the way. 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 A hire is the result of all the activity that precedes it. Understanding your funnel at the micro-activity level and focusing on those processes will turn your business into a repeatable science. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐧, 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐆𝐨 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭 Timelines slip, projects change, and candidate availability is often out of our control. I've personally learned to focus on the aspects I can manage and let go of the rest. This mindset has helped me remain calm, and productive and lends itself well to the first piece of advice. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 C.S. Lewis once said, integrity is "Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching." We work in a reputation-driven business, do what's right for both your candidates and clients. 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 '𝐖𝐡𝐲' Simon Sinek's book "Start with Why" talks about the importance of clearly defining your purpose and differentiating between your 'why you're doing something' and your 'what you do'. This concept brought back powerful memories from when I started in recruiting and was coached by Sharon W.. Sharon instilled in me this notion of changing people's lives through our work. I often reflect back on the 'we have the ability to change what is on our candidates dinner table by doing what we do.' These are my four pieces of advice. What would you add?

The CFPB plans to rescind its 1033 open banking rule, which would have required banks to share customer financial data with authorized third parties at the consumer’s request, following a lawsuit from major banks and a shift in regulatory priorities under the Trump administration. Critics argue that setting aside the rule will maintain the current fragmented data-sharing landscape, limit consumer control over their own financial information, and slow innovation in the financial sector, while banks have raised concerns about liability, privacy, and the scope of third-party data use. Despite the rollback, industry groups and Fintechs are expected to continue advancing open banking through voluntary standards and partnerships, with over 144 million customers already using APIs aligned with industry standards. The debate over consumer data rights is likely to persist, as experts believe financial data access is just the beginning of broader discussions about consumer control over all types of personal data. As the future of open banking hangs in the balance, we are left to consider who truly benefits when access to personal financial data is restricted or enabled.
