Many ending in silence after multiple rounds. No follow-up, no feedback, just… nothing. Recently, I completed final rounds for two different roles at two different organizations. I didn’t get either position. But surprisingly, those rejections felt different. Why? Because both recruiters communicated clearly throughout the process. They set expectations, gave timelines, and most importantly... they followed through. One took the time to call me directly and walk through the decision. The other sent a thoughtful email with real feedback. That level of professionalism stands out more than they probably realize. There are real people on the other side of these processes. People dealing with stress, uncertainty, and the pressure of what’s next. Even when the answer is “no,” clarity and closure matter. A simple follow-up. A direct response. A bit of feedback. We've seen this movie before. 🎬 Google officially announced that starting in September, Dynamic Search Ads (DSA) will automatically upgrade to AI Max, and the search marketing world is buzzing. But if you've been in this industry long enough, you know this isn't a plot twist. It's the next chapter of a story Google has been writing for over a decade. Standard Text Ads → Expanded Text Ads → Responsive Search Ads. Every single transition followed a pattern: Google introduced a smarter, more automated format, gave advertisers a voluntary migration window, then sunset the legacy product. Each time, the industry debated, resisted, and ultimately adapted. Each time, the underlying theme was the same... move control away from rigid keyword structures and toward intent-based signals. DSA was a step in that direction. It crawled your website, matched queries dynamically, and reduced the need for exhaustive keyword lists. But as consumer searches become more complex and unpredictable, Google argues that moving beyond landing page data to include broader, real-time intent signals is the only way to connect with customers in the moments that matter most. blog AI Max is the logical conclusion of that thesis. It combines advertiser inputs like ads and website content with richer signals to find untapped queries, while keeping ads relevant. It adds advanced controls like brand filters, location controls, and text guidelines to give marketers a steering wheel, even if they no longer control the engine. And the performance claims are notable: AI Max for Search campaigns sees an average of 7% more conversions or conversion value at a similar CPA/ROAS when using the full feature suite. Google doesn't publish numbers like that unless they're confident in adoption. Here's the bigger picture that nobody is talking about enough: this isn't just a product update, it's a philosophical shift in what a "search marketer" actually does. For years, our craft was built on keyword mastery, match type strategy, and precision. That world is being replaced by one where our value lies in feeding the machine better inputs. The keyword is no longer the atom of search. Intent is. So here are the questions I'm sitting with; 👉 Are you embracing AI Max early, or waiting for the forced migration in September? 👉 As automation absorbs more of the tactical layer, where do you believe human search expertise becomes most irreplaceable? 👉 Is Google giving advertisers enough meaningful control, or are "brand filters and text guidelines" just the illusion of control while the algorithm does what it wants? The advertisers who thrived through the ETA → RSA transition weren't the ones who resisted the longest. They were the ones who understood the new rules fastest and built strategies around them. Aaron Davis liked thisAaron Davis liked thisJensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, said it quite succinctly when talking about the ongoing story of layoffs being used to fund AI: "... you're out of imagination. For companies with imagination, you will do more with more. For companies where the leadership is just out of ideas, they have nothing else to do, they have no reason to imagine greater than they are then when they have more capability, they don't do more." This isn't about whether AI is the true reason behind a lot of these layoffs. It's about the sheer lack of creativity amongst leaders at companies. And it's because they're not driven by the desire to create. They're driven by the desire to make money. Think about it: if your goals are only to scale exponentially, as quickly as possible, so that you can exit with a golden parachute, you don't give a f*ck about creating anything of value. Your company could be anything, do anything, make anything, because it's not about the work and the value, it's about chasing whatever trend might get you the cheapest dollar the fastest. Look at the companies that do these insane pivots every six months. It's not because they're trying to get better at what they do. It's because they're chasing money. Hopping on whatever bandwagon the rest of the money chasers think will earn them a dollar. And then it's not about building a business that solves a problem that exists. That just becomes the marketing facade while the whole goal is cheap dollars. I don't know about you, but having seen it play out in real time in many instances, you can see that by using this model, the very thing you seek becomes more and more elusive. These companies hit a wall when chasing and grasping at dollars, and then the panic sets in. Because the goal was never to create something, it was always to extract. And these leaders aren't wired for creativity and imagination. So when that is what it takes to get over a slump, they can't do it. So they extract more. The dollars become harder to get, so they think "spend less, earn more." Cut people, because we never provided anything of value anyway. We're just an elaborate shell game with board of directors. So many companies right now operate with these sheep-like, brain-rot, scarcity-minded folks at the helm. Constantly putting out fires they started because "what if the money burns????" And the thing is: more people would be bought into AI, more people would see its value, more people would be less fearful and skeptical if they didn't see so clearly how these uncreative leaders think AI is a replacement for humans, rather than an enabler of productivity. And these leaders are so focused on mindlessly counting their pennies, they've completely forgotten how to earn an actual dollar.

I’ve been thinking about what to speak on now that I’m not marketing jobs or an employee experience for a single company. Though I will post some random things from time to time, I will ultimately stay in my lane and speak on People, Processes, and Operational Excellence. Why me and why now? I’ve sat at multiple tables. I’ve built, scaled, challenged, and corrected systems across the workforce. I’ve worked with leaders, operators, creatives, and builders. My differentiator is simple: I’m not trying to fit into the system. I’m here to fine-tune it. One band – one sound! In this season, I want to not just address People #Opex dysfunction, but what has often become a disease that erodes People Functions. I’ve seen it too many times—recently and repeatedly. #ThePeople keep getting misaligned, overlooked, and in some cases, flat-out mishandled by the very systems designed to support them. This could manifest itself as leaders being disconnected from reality, processes being built without intention, and/or organizations operating without true accountability. #TheHeadline: Ineffective or willfully inept leadership will break even the best systems and sour the best employees. It doesn’t matter if we have strong operators, great intentions, or “good people.” If the roots are compromised, the entire tree feels it. When #peopleprocesses are broken, you see it everywhere. Morale drops. Hiring becomes reactive instead of strategic. Knowledge walks out the door. Targets get missed. But when it’s done right? You feel that too. #OperationalExcellence looks like people-first systems that are both efficient and effective. It looks like collaboration across departments with a shared language. It looks like promotions happening from within, hiring done with intention, and a culture where performance and belief rise together. This is the work, and we are #TheWorkers. In this new season of mine, I will say things more plainly. I get to speak more directly for and to all of our people. This is the #OriginStory of Conscience Talent Consulting. CTC was created not just to advise or consult, but to call things what they are and help build what they should be. Processes and products alone can’t build a company. You need #ThePeople as the third strand of the cord. And a cord of three strands cannot easily be broken. #TheWork is plenty for organizations, leaders, and builders who are ready to do this work the right way.
