Ann Johnson shared thisToday marks world password day. Reflecting on something I have been saying for literally decades. We must move to 100% passwordless and use phish-proof strong/multi factor authentication for every access 100% of the time. Passkeys are a reduced friction way to improve security and drive adoption, but we have more work to do. Reflecting on a conversation with a family member with a now compromised social media account. ‘It was too difficult to use the MFA they put in place.’ After a big sigh, I paused. Instead of blaming the user, I reflected on the user experience - in this case an authenticator that required navigation outside the app then back to the app. Whilst secure, this created too much friction for the user. As an industry, we must continue to innovate and reduce friction for consumers and enterprises alike to drive increased adoption. Trust drives innovation. Our ability to create trust is not just shipping secure tools, it is also understanding the user experience and making certain the tools are easy to use. And the cute pup reminds you not to use your pups name for your password!! #worldpasswordday #trust #cybersecurity

Cyber-attacks don't stop at the breach. They end in fraud. As the payment attack surface expands, the cost of keeping cyber and fraud teams in silos grows — in exposure, in losses, and in trust. Join us at #RiskX on 20–21 May, at 📍 Pan Pacific Singapore, as Mastercard experts and industry leaders explore how to connect the intelligence and close the gap. Ann Johnson reposted thisAnn Johnson reposted thisThere’s a lot of attention placed on quarterly earnings reports and rightfully so. They’re an opportunity to understand how a business is performing and how they are maximizing the opportunities and navigating the challenges placed in front of them. During our earnings report this week, we placed a spotlight on Mastercard’s strong start to this year and helped investors and others understand how we have positioned the company to support our customers’ needs. Every day, our teams across the globe are focused on being a strong, strategic partner, looking around corners to what’s needed next. They’re a driven, dedicated and creative group that makes Mastercard the company we are. They are delivering the security and peace of mind that they want in every transaction or how we give them data insights to inform their decision making. It comes down to understanding their needs and goals to developing the solutions that can make a difference for them. The small business segment is a critical component to every local economy. While they may not report quarterly results, their impact is felt by each of us every day. In my most recent blog, I dig a little more into how we’re supporting their needs and driving value together. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/d87wrHRa

Ann Johnson reposted thisAnn Johnson reposted thisMiami brought the energy to #eMergeAmericas last week. From security to fintech to healthtech to government, the drive to innovate across industries was undeniable at this event. We know, however, that innovation only thrives when trust and security are at the core — because threat actors aren’t slowing down. I had the opportunity to take the stage with Mariana Atencio and Colin Mahony and 3 things were clear from our conversation: ➡️Cyber risk is systemic, fast-moving and has economic impacts. With AI acceleration, geopolitical fragmentation and hyper-connected systems, trust has become the most valuable — and fragile — currency in the digital economy. 💡Trust is operational. Leaders build trust by detecting issues faster, understanding context better and acting sooner. That requires intelligence that connects signals, anticipates threats and performs at machine speed — not after damage is done. 📈Intelligence-driven collaboration is how we shift from reactive to proactive. By making this shift to proactive cybersecurity, we can reduce the cost of cybercrime, strengthen resilience and enable secure growth for businesses, governments and consumers worldwide. Ann Johnson shared thisMegan S., Strategy Officer at the Institute for Security and Technology, joins me on this week’s episode of Afternoon Cyber Tea. We talk about how boards and senior leaders should think about resilience when the pressure is real, the information is incomplete, and the consequences extend beyond the organization itself. What stands out to me was not a new framework or a new control, but the importance of judgment. Cybersecurity at the executive level is about deciding what matters most, who is accountable, and how risk is governed when tradeoffs are unavoidable. It is about preparedness before a crisis, not performance during one. This conversation is for leaders who understand that trust is built before an incident, and that resilience is ultimately a matter of governance and accountability. Ann Johnson reacted on thisAnn Johnson reacted on thisCybersecurity is going through a once-in-a-generation shift. The people joining Kai right now understand that, and they're here because they want to be on the right side of it. Alfredo Hickman joined as our CISO with nearly 20 years of security leadership spanning the private sector, national security, and military service. He's not just building our internal security program, he's operating Kai's own platform inside our environment, stress-testing it in real time. That's the standard we hold ourselves to. Nick Degnan joined as CRO. Nick previously built revenue organizations at Axonius, AppOmni, and Tanium. He sees what's happening in the market and chose to bet on Kai. His words: "I haven't seen a company take on something this ambitious and execute at this level so early." That kind of endorsement means a lot. You need people who've seen the problem up close and believe something fundamentally better is possible. That's who we've been hiring. And we're just getting started. 🚀 https://lnkd.in/gvNG-MTfKai Careers: Join Our Team | Kai Agentic AI PlatformKai Careers: Join Our Team | Kai Agentic AI Platform

Ann Johnson reacted on thisAnn Johnson reacted on thisAppreciated the opportunity to participate in this evening’s Council on Foreign Relations dialogue with Michael Miebach, Chief Executive Officer of Mastercard. I particularly valued his nuanced perspective in response to my question concerning the emergence of Mythos-esque AI-driven cyber risk, and the broader challenge of governing systemic vulnerabilities across an increasingly interconnected global commercial and financial ecosystem. As AI capabilities continue to compound asymmetrically, the conversation underscored a critical reality for boards and executive leadership alike: cyber resilience can no longer be viewed solely through a technical or enterprise lens, but rather as a matter of strategic, economic, and geopolitical stability. Exploitation timelines are increasingly measured in days rather than weeks. Our latest report from Rapid7 Labs correlates vulnerability publication data, confirmed exploitation trends, frontline MDR incident response telemetry, and dark web, cybercrime, and nation-state intelligence to provide a unified view of how exposure evolves into compromise. One of the biggest standouts: how rapidly AI is being integrated into attacker playbooks, accelerating the operationalization of exposure. Many of the incidents we investigate still originate from known, unaddressed exposure. In those cases, attackers don’t need sophistication - they need opportunity. As remediation windows shrink, reducing that opportunity becomes essential to limiting compromise. Policies matter - but only if they align with daily operations and are backed up by records. Without that alignment, even the most detailed documents don't hold up in an audit. Do your policies reflect what your people actually do day to day? Download the CMMC Desktop Reference Guide. It gives you a simple way to compare what's written against what's happening. It's the fastest way to see if you're aligned or if you're carrying risk into your audit. https://lnkd.in/gTP5PTKg #CMMC #audit #compliance #securedata

Cyber threats are escalating for tribal casinos and enterprises, as advances in artificial intelligence create new vulnerabilities—putting operations and customer data at risk. Following this month’s TribalNet Conference & Tradeshow in Reno, the Tribal Information Sharing & Analysis Center (ISAC) revealed new survey findings on the evolving threat landscape and how tribes are responding. To empower smaller tribal communities in the fight against cybercrime, ISAC is also offering grant funds to bolster cyber defenses and strengthen resilience. “Tribal cybersecurity is no longer a peripheral concern; it is a strategic imperative,” the report said. “As digital threats grow in complexity and frequency, Tribal Nations face unique challenges in protecting their sovereignty, infrastructure, and communities. From small IT teams and constrained budgets to evolving regulatory pressures and emerging technologies, tribal organizations must navigate cybersecurity with precision, resilience, and cultural alignment.”
