In this three-part series, we take a closer look at the rapid growth of emerging automotive markets, focusing on the cybersecurity trends and challenges that matter most to OEMs and suppliers operating in these regions. Post 1 of 3: Automotive Cybersecurity Organizational Readiness - CSMS, Processes, and Ongoing Cybersecurity Training Building a solid organizational foundation for cybersecurity is no longer a choice; it’s a necessity in today’s rapidly evolving automotive industry. As vehicles and systems become more interconnected, new cybersecurity risks are introduced throughout the entire product lifecycle. A robust Cybersecurity Management System (CSMS), anchored in established standards, is essential to proactively prioritize and manage risks from concept development through aftersales service. Cybersecurity success also depends heavily on people. Regular, role-specific training empowers engineers, managers, and decision-makers to understand their cybersecurity responsibilities and stay current with best practices. Assigning clear roles and responsibilities, fostering collaboration, conducting routine audits, and embedding cybersecurity activities early into development (“shift-left” mindset) all contribute to an organization’s ability to identify and mitigate weaknesses and vulnerabilities more cost-effectively. It is important to note that sustainable risk management emerges when governance, process clarity, workforce readiness, and early cybersecurity integration become part of everyday operations. If your organization is seeking to establish or enhance CSMS, develop comprehensive development processes with built-in cybersecurity activities, or improve cybersecurity training, please reach out to IAV for tailored support. #Cybersecurity #CSMS #Processes #Training #IAV www.iav.com

Post 2: Automotive Systems Secure Design - Defense in Depth and Future-Proofing with PQC Cybersecurity must be engineered into every layer of vehicle systems through a defense-in-depth strategy. Key areas include protecting external communications to and from the vehicle, secure electrical/electronic (E/E) architectures employing network isolation and segmentation, secure in-vehicle communications protecting CAN and Ethernet data traffic, and hardware-based secure root of trust enabling features within ECUs such as secure boot, trusted execution environments, and cryptographic operations that prevent unauthorized access or tampering. To future-proof these cybersecurity solutions against emerging threats like quantum computing, integration of Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) algorithms is becoming increasingly critical. PQC provides quantum-resistant encryption and digital signatures designed to secure vehicle communications, software updates, and key management. Deploying cybersecurity solutions based on PQC algorithms helps ensure that critical vehicle functions remain trustworthy even as quantum capabilities evolve. This proactive evolution in cryptographic design is essential for maintaining long-term security, especially for connected, electric, and autonomous vehicles with long lifecycles. Establishing a strong defense-in-depth posture, i.e., coupling layered network security, secure communications and secure hardware solutions, together with quantum-resistant cryptography, fortifies vehicles against sophisticated cyber threats while aligning with anticipated regulatory demands. For assistance in designing secure network architectures, implementing hardware security features, or integrating PQC for future-proof vehicle cybersecurity, IAV is ready to support. #Cybersecurity #SecureDesign #Architecture #PQC #IAV www.iav.com

Hidden internals of an EV battery pack: details and insights for automotive security experts. ⚡🚗🔋♻️👀 An international group of automotive experts published last year a rare - and therefore very valuable - document: a comprehensive review of automotive battery pack design from an OEM perspective. A one-stop shop for EV car hackers. From key components like the Battery Management System (BMS) to electrical requirements, regulatory standards, system architecture, safety engineering, and emerging technologies. Did you know that in modern electric vehicles, battery manufacturers typically keep a 5 - 10% hidden energy reserve inside the battery? If you’re into automotive cybersecurity and your focus is electric vehicles (both defense and attack), this paper will be your gold mine of ideas. Enjoy! :) More details: Automotive Battery Pack Standards and Design Characteristics: A Review [PDF]: https://lnkd.in/dVixmYNN #automotive #cybersecurity #electric #EV #battery #BMS #standard #infosec #tech #carhacking #vehicle #mobility #modern #traffic

«Escaping the Scenario Explosion: A Prudence-Based Paradigm for Autonomous Vehicles». Autonomous vehicles are now technically feasible, but their development is increasingly constrained by a fundamental scalability issue: the explosion of driving scenarios required to train and validate learning-based systems. Industry leaders such as Waymo report hundreds of millions of real-world kilometers driven, complemented by billions of simulated kilometers. Recent advances in large-scale simulation, notably announced by NVIDIA at CES 2026, further increase the volume of data that must be generated, processed, and validated—without solving the underlying problem, although it is a stunning new technology. Driving occurs in an open world, where the number of possible scenarios is inherently unbounded. As a result, scenario-based approaches face growing complexity, cost, and validation challenges. MOTIV AI addresses this limitation through a prudence-based paradigm. Instead of reasoning at the scenario level, we introduce a prudence metric that evaluates, at every instant, whether a vehicle—human-driven or autonomous—is behaving prudently with respect to uncertainty, visibility, distance, and reaction margins. Our key insight is that prudence functions act as the elementary building blocks of motion control, enabling complex driving behavior to be decomposed into a small set of fundamental interactions. This approach enables a drastic reduction in required training and validation data, supports true unit testing of autonomous driving functions, significantly reduces hardware and simulation costs, and accelerates development cycles. MOTIV AI’s proprietary Anticipative Prudence technology represents a disruptive shift in autonomous driving: moving from enumerating scenarios to enforcing principled, scalable, and anticipatory safe behavior—providing a credible path to escaping the scenario explosion.
