Daniel Pelaez shared thisSpent the day at USDOT. Went in to share what we’re building and hear what they’re working on. Incredible how much overlap there was. America turns 250 this year. Think about what we depend on every single day … highways, rails, tunnels, runways. Planes, trains, and automobiles. We take it for granted, but this network powers the country. And the same network has to carry us into the next 250. That’s the work. The hundreds of communities CYVL partners with are already working on it, from the largest metros to the smallest rural towns. All using infrastructure intelligence to power how they move. Locked in. More soon. 🇺🇸

Daniel Pelaez reposted thisDaniel Pelaez reposted thisI had an amazing time at CYVL's Physical AI Happy Hour at their HQ in Somerville. Incredible getting to connect with founders, engineers, and builders all working on the next wave of AI, the kind that actually touches the physical world. It's always inspiring seeing the amazing work that Worcester Polytechnic Institute alums are doing. Got to tour the machine shop and see live demos of what the team is shipping. It was really cool seeing physical AI go from idea to prototype in real time. The energy in the room was exactly what you want at an event like this: no panels, just people genuinely excited about what they're building. Big thank you to Daniel Pelaez and the team at CYVL for hosting such an amazing event. Looking forward to what's next!

Daniel Pelaez reposted thisDaniel Pelaez reposted thisEvery morning, ~50 million American kids walk, bike, or get dropped off at school. Every year, about 100 of them don't come home. 25,000 end up in the hospital. The infrastructure that's supposed to protect them — sidewalks, crosswalks, curb ramps, signage — is often decades old, broken, or missing entirely. Sidewalks that lead to nowhere and obvious crossing zones contain no pedestrian infrastructure whatsoever. And most cities have no systematic way to know which school zones need attention first. Check out the video below for an example. We even catch some jaywalkers in the act 🫠 What you're seeing is one LiDAR and Imagery equipped drive around a school zone to map every sidewalk gap, faded crosswalk, noncompliant ramp, missing signs and more — Rolling the data up into a safety score and delivered as an infrastructure audit. What used to take months or years, can be done in just a few weeks. Fewer assumptions. Better grant applications. Better decision making frameworks. Safer walks and safer kids. If you run a public works department or sit on a school district safety committee, let's talk.

Daniel Pelaez shared thisThis is the kind of news that builds confidence. Massachusetts’ proposed $305M investment to support tech economy including AI expansion shows the state is serious about leading the next era of Physical AI. With top-notch universities, talent, and our tech ecosystem built for innovation, Massachusetts clearly has what it takes to win the race. The direction is right. Now there is only one mantra: scale. Excited for what this means for builders and for companies like CYVL working to turn innovation into impact for the real-world. #PhysicalAI #Massachusetts #AI #InnovationEconomy #CYVL #Scale

Daniel Pelaez shared thisMayor Sean Ryan just did something most city leaders talk about but few actually do. This week in Buffalo, he unveiled the City’s 2026 paving program — and announced a partnership with CYVL to bring infrastructure intelligence to every road and sidewalk decision the city makes. No more guesswork. No more squeaky-wheel politics deciding which streets get fixed. Buffalo is going data-driven with infrastructure investments, and stretching taxpayer dollars as a result. This is what leadership looks like. A mayor who said “We’re done doing it the old way” — and meant it. Buffalo is the model. Who’s next?

Daniel Pelaez reposted thisDaniel Pelaez reposted thisWe're thrilled to announce that the City of Buffalo, New York is partnering with CYVL to bring Infrastructure Intelligence to every street and sidewalk across the city. Yesterday, Mayor Sean Ryan announced Cyvl as the City of Buffalo's partner for automated roadway and sidewalk assessment, powering Buffalo's 2027 paving priorities and helping the City update its ADA transition plan for the first time in 12 years. "This investment is part of a larger emphasis we are putting on prioritizing areas of need and doing the work the right way the first time," Mayor Ryan said. "For too long, residents have been left with streets in poor condition that went unaddressed. By using technology and focusing on need, we can make smarter investments, stretch taxpayer dollars further, and deliver better results for residents." The City of Good Neighbors joins a growing network of cities across the country investing in Infrastructure Intelligence to make smarter, more transparent decisions about where every dollar goes. "Not every mayor would commit to this level of transparency and accountability. Mayor Ryan did. This partnership will put objective data behind every paving and sidewalk decision, giving residents across the city confidence that their infrastructure is being managed fairly. Buffalo is leading with innovation that other cities should take notice of" Daniel Pelaez, Cyvl CEO and Cofounder, said. Hard work on important issues comes with scrutiny. If it leads to debate that helps more people understand the dynamics of crime and public safety, good. If it helps deliver justice to victims, support more than one million criminal investigations and aid the safe return of more than 10,000 missing people last year alone, great. In 2019, San Francisco voted to restrict the use of safety tech by law enforcement. It was hailed as a victory. Crime rose dramatically. By 2024, Flock was brought in to serve the city. By 2025? Major crimes fell by 44%. Mayor Lurie said this week, “We’re driving down crime, catching criminals and sending a message to the region. If you come to San Francisco to commit crime, we’re going to catch you.” Austin went another way. Its homicide rate is +36% its pre-pandemic baseline, per the Council on Criminal Justice. In Dallas, our support aided a -32% decline in homicide and its lowest violent crime rate in a decade. Same pattern in Pasadena. With Flock support, overall-crime clearance is 35%. The national average is 20-25%. In Lincoln, CA, crime fell 8% last year. A police officer wrote in a comment on my post about a hit-and-run case we supported recently, “I have worked several crashes that without Flock would have been cold cases.” That outcome? Our "snitching-ass startup” is proud to serve.

Daniel Pelaez reacted on thisDaniel Pelaez reacted on thisAmazing webinar this week with Santiago G., CIO of the City of Boston. He walked us through how much can be accomplished with Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers – a secure intermediary layer that lets AI interact reliably with city systems like open data portals, permitting, pothole management, and recreation reservations. We’re still at the beginning of what’s possible. From streamlining service requests to making information more accessible and responsive, there is enormous potential when strong governance meets the right technical infrastructure. Through support from the Knight Foundation, Data-Smart City Solutions is partnering with three cities – City of Boulder, City of Philadelphia, and City of San José – to put these ideas into practice. Each city will host a local data fellow focused on building internal capacity, assessing risks, and piloting practical applications such as AI-powered chatbots for public inquiries and streamlined small business permitting. Yesterday Governor Healey filed the Ride Safe Act, a bill to establish a first in the nation speed-based framework for micromobility devices based on the recommendations of the Special Committee on Micromobility. Huge kudos to my colleagues Kristopher Carter and Jaclyn Youngblood for guiding the commission’s work and translating their recs to legislative proposals. More detail below and linked in comments. Earlier in the day I joined Interim Secretary Eng and members of the legislature on a tour of transportation in Beverly, including a Commuter Rail ride on the Newburyport/Rockport line, a walk across the Hall-Whitaker Bridge, a CATA bus ride, and a tour of the Beverly Airport tower. And today I had the pleasure of delivering the opening keynote at the annual MassDOT Innovation Conference, following by a wide-ranging fireside chat that included everything from AI to ADA to Little Blue Truck. Daniel Pelaez reacted on thisDaniel Pelaez reacted on thisLast week, I sat down to write the piece I've been thinking about for years. The shortest version: State and local government is the most underserved, underexplored, and underestimated tech market in America. (Have you ever tried fighting a parking ticket online?) But tech has slept on categories like this before. And eventually, it wakes up. Over the last decade, we saw in defense what happens when an undervalued category finally gets serious capital and talent: It becomes a $49 billion-a-year sector and one of the most consequential places to build. I believe that cities are next. Heads up: This is a long one. I promise I won't be offended if you bookmark it for the weekend. I wrote it partly to explain to myself why it was worth building a company in a category most investors naysayed (shout out to the ones who didn't). And partly to convince other people to join me. If you're thinking about building in civic tech but don't know where to start, DM me (and/or Lisa Hawkins and Grant Sivesind)! If you're skeptical—even better. I’d love to talk and make the case for why this is the right industry to focus on. And why *right now* is the right time. TLDR: We’ve built for the battlefield. It’s time to build for the block.

The paper introduces SVII‑3D, a novel computer vision framework designed to automate the creation of detailed roadside infrastructure inventories using sparse street imagery. Traditional methods struggle with limited image coverage, poor robustness, and inaccurate localization, which hinders the scalability of smart city digital twins and asset lifecycle management. SVII‑3D addresses these challenges by first combining LoRA‑fine‑tuned open‑set object detection with a spatial‑attention matching network to reliably associate detected infrastructure elements across multiple sparse views. This association step improves robustness over typical feature matching and enhances correspondence between images taken from different perspectives. Beyond detection, the system incorporates a geometry‑guided refinement mechanism that corrects structural errors to produce decimeter‑level 3D localization of roadside assets. This high positional accuracy is crucial for precise digital twin models. Additionally, SVII‑3D integrates a Vision‑Language Model (VLM) agent with multi‑modal prompting to go beyond geometric mapping and automatically interpret the operational state and fine‑grained attributes of infrastructure elements. Experimental results in the paper show that this unified approach significantly enhances identification accuracy and minimizes localization errors, offering a scalable and cost‑effective solution for high‑fidelity infrastructure digitization even from sparse visual data. https://lnkd.in/g2ssbkTw

Evolving SkyRL into a Highly-Modular RL Framework https://lnkd.in/eiCEAdS6 SkyRL-v0.1: Making SkyRL Modular In the [original release of SkyRL](https://lnkd.in/eDQFxZef), we introduced an agentic layer in the RL stack for multi-turn tool use LLMs, optimized for long-horizon, real-environment tasks like SWE-Bench. Today, we are upgrading SkyRL to a highly-modular RL framework to train LLMs with the introduction of two key additions: 1) A **modular**, **performant** **RL framework** for training LLMs. SkyRL makes it easy to prototype new training algorithms, environments, and training execution plans — without compromising usability or speed. 2) A **gymnasium of tool-use tasks** with a simple environment interface and an ****out-of-the box library of popular tasks ****such as math, code, search, and SQL. SkyRL’s modularity enables easy implementation of real-world improvements—like async training, heterogeneous hardware, and new environments — with **under 100 LoC** and up to **1.8× faster training**.
