At the Smart Business Dealmakers Conference in South Florida, the midday panel featured Frank Grande, CEO of Quirch Foods, who spoke about the company’s ongoing transformation and its strategy for positioning Quirch Foods for the next generation of growth. 𝗔 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿. As RNDC contracts, wholesalers like SGWS, Breakthru Beverage, Johnson Brothers, and others will have 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲. That shifts expectations. It shifts leverage. 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲. Not just about 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 suppliers they work with, but 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴 of each portfolio they choose to support. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 they let through the door. Distributors will expect: • 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽- aligned priorities, shared accountability, and realistic expectations about pace, sequencing, and investment. • 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁- not just decks, but consumer insights, in-market programs, sales tools, training, and follow-through that helps reps win. • 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀- instead of everything being a priority, suppliers must be disciplined around what truly matters in each market. • 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀- structured in a way that makes the brand worth attention versus just tolerated. 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆. Since the inception of Beverage Alcohol Consultants (BAC), I’ve been intentional about using the term 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆, not distributor management. The distinction matters.
