Jian Hua liked thisJian Hua liked thisI got to train with Khabib Nurmagomedov yesterday. This was an honor of a lifetime for me. He's a great fighter & leader and a great human being. From a grappling perspective, I don't think I've ever experienced this much top pressure in my life. I'll post the footage of the training in a few days. And also we'll do a long podcast (and dub it in multiple languages). In general, it was an incredible experience to train with the team and get to know many of the fighters from Dagestan. All are great people.

Jian Hua liked thisJian Hua liked thisEveryone is yelling about “AGI” right now, but the people closest to the frontier are still giving wide, uncertain timelines. Ilya just said 5–10 years on the Dwarkesh Patel podcast. Demis Hassabis has said similar numbers. Meanwhile, expert surveys still place the median expectation closer to the 2040s–2050s, and a good chunk of researchers think it could be much later — or never. there is no consensus, just speculation. That’s why this meme fits the current moment: companies barking at each other about AGI while no one has crossed the threshold. The real progress isn’t in “AGI claims.” It’s in the unglamorous fundamentals: • reliability under real workloads • reasoning that actually generalizes • efficient multimodal integration • scalable data + compute strategies • products that deliver value today, not in hypothetical AGI futures The noise is about AGI timelines. The work is about making current AI systems genuinely useful.

We live in a world where AI can pass medical exams, write code, solve complex mathematical problems… yet still can’t reliably install CUDA on Linux. Forget AGI timelines, the real benchmark is getting CUDA drivers to work on Ubuntu without sacrificing your weekend, your sanity, or your GPU’s dignity. The memes are not exaggerating. People have annihilated entire installations, broken X server twice, filled 75GB of disk space with failed dependencies, and aged 20 years trying to fix nvidia-smi saying “nope”. Some even witnessed ChatGPT give up after 69 minutes thinking and reply with the most honest answer ever: “You can’t.” And the version mismatches? Legendary. nvcc says one thing, /usr/local says another, and your driver insists it’s living in 2017. One reboot too early and boom, black screen of death. One Secure Boot toggle and suddenly your GPU has entered witness protection. But hey… when it finally works? That smile is pure enlightenment. #ai #cuda

Instead, he bought three Claude Code subscriptions and spent the holiday trying to cross-compile 2 million lines of C++. Every fix on one platform broke two others. $600 later, the only output was "git reset --hard" — and a very cold dinner table.😂 "Make it compile on Windows" is a trap. The real goal was "compile everywhere without hacks" — no AI is going to figure that out for you at 2 am. What worked: constraints before code, review tests not code, bottom-up, one layer at a time. Same task, two days. Then he ran six parallel Claude sessions across three machines with git worktree. The bottleneck stopped being intelligence and started being how fast one person can alt-tab. AI solves exactly the problem you give it. Engineering is in knowing which one to give. His wife is still waiting for that bag.
