Kay Johnson shared thisImpact capital only matters if it actually reaches the people and places that need it most. This piece from Acumen is a thoughtful reminder that courage, patience, and long-term systems thinking matter just as much as capital itself. A good read for anyone thinking about philanthropy, ESG, impact investing, or building more human-centered models for change.Kay Johnson shared thisIt's been 25 years since we started Acumen, when "social investing" was barely a whisper. Today, impact assets are measured in the trillions. And yet in too many of the places where poverty is deepest and climate shocks are most severe, capital still does not flow at the speed or scale required. The people who have long been overlooked and underestimated risk being left even further behind. I've been thinking about why and what it will take to close the gap between the commitments impact investors make and the capital that actually reaches the people who need it most. Those reflections became a letter. In it, I write about the real tradeoffs of impact-first investing, the essential role of philanthropy and what courageous capital actually looks like right now. I'd be grateful if you'd read it and share it with those who should be part of this conversation. https://lnkd.in/eAUdh6EF

Kay Johnson shared thisAfter nearly 20 years of pushing, Sinéad Burke and the Tilting the Lens team didn’t just show up at the Met — they reshaped it.Kay Johnson shared thisSinéad Burke has changed the Met forever, For nearly 20 years Sinéad has been advocating for an accessible Met Gala. Last night, it happened! She and her team at Tilting the Lens spent 18 months working on the Met’s ‘Costume Art’ exhibition, shaping how The Disabled Body is represented at the most prestigious fashion institution in the world. And because of that work, Aariana Rose Philip took to that famous carpet as the first wheelchair user in history to attend the Met Gala. Aariana, whose body is also cast inside the exhibition itself. Lauren Wasser, model and disability advocate, also walked the carpet, with stunning golden prosthetic legs. And Sinéad, who was molded into a mannequin for “Costume Art,” wore a custom jet-black Siriano gown with feather-like embellishments. “When people see my mannequin, I want them to see a beautiful, sexy lady. I want them to see a supermodel and a legend. I want them to see that disabled and Black trans people matter always, and that we should’ve been in these spaces for a long time, and that there’s nothing wrong with being people like us, and there’s never been anything wrong with us.” - Aariana Rose Philip Sinéad, you moved the culture. What an epic moment for disability representation. Image descriptions in comment.

Kay Johnson reposted thisKay Johnson reposted this#FQLeaders ✨ The largest wealth transfer in history is already underway, and $30 trillion of it is heading to women. Ida Liu, CEO of HSBC Private Bank, made it clear at this year’s Milken Institute Global Conference that of the $100 trillion passing from one generation to the next, $30 trillion is going to women, and that has massive implications for how the world invests. As millennials step into their financial power and women take an ever-larger seat at the table, she’s watching an entire asset class rethink itself in real time, and she couldn’t be more hopeful about where it’s headed. Neither could we.

Kay Johnson liked thisKay Johnson liked this"All you have to do is step in and say hello… and the rest takes care of itself." Another golden nugget of advice from a recent admitted students day! One of my core skills has always been simplifying the complex, whenever and however I can. So much of success is simply showing up and being in the room. It's about staying present and engaged. It's about having the courage to find the places that you need and want to be. That dean reminded me of something my dad would've said -- it's all about showing up and taking that first step. May we all be reminded that the first step doesn't have to be as daunting as it may seem 👋

To go from that to now, somehow finding myself there - I can't say how blessed and honoured I feel attending." The Antiguian-American model and musician, who lives with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, took to the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday evening. In 2018, aged just 17, Philip became the first Black, transgender, and physically disabled model to secure representation with a major modelling agency after signing with Elite Modelling. #DisabledRepresentationMatters #Inclusion

Kay Johnson reacted on thisKay Johnson reacted on thisFour years ago, Patrick and I started MOSH with one simple belief: brain health is something we should all be thinking about long before a crisis arrives. Alzheimer’s has touched my family personally, as it has millions of others. And every statistic around this disease reminds me why this work matters so deeply. Every three seconds, someone in the world develops Alzheimer’s. Two out of three are women. Today, I’m proud to share that MOSH has raised $13 million in Series A funding, led by Main Street Advisors, to help us continue building The Brain Brand®. This next chapter will allow us to expand nationally in grocery stores, invest in product innovation, continue supporting brain health research, and grow the incredible team making all of this possible. What means the most to me is that this mission is about changing the conversation around brain health and giving people simple, daily ways to care for themselves and the people they love. With every MOSH bar sold, a portion of proceeds supports research at the Women's Alzheimer's Movement’s at Cleveland Clinic, with more than $400,000 raised to date. I’m deeply grateful to our team led by Jeffrey Gamsey, JD our investors, our retail partners, and every customer who has supported this mission from the beginning. There is still so much work to do, but I believe conversations like this, and companies built with purpose, can help move us forward. Full release in comments.

Tomorrow kicks off SXSW, which happens to be my favorite festival!!! It’s been a minute since I’ve dropped into Austin, but if you’re lucky enough to be headed there, here are a few unofficial tips from a former repeat attendee: Start your day with breakfast tacos. 🌮 They are the best. You will quickly get used to eating them with a crisp iced coffee… and when you return home, you will be sad. Eat queso. Eat a lot of it. Again, sadness awaits if you don’t. Go to the dinners and the parties. 🎉 Meet people. Wander into conversations. Some of the best connections happen when you’re just standing around holding a taco. And you'll see some of the coolest branding on the planet. Spend time in the convention center. 🏪 Yes, it’s chaotic. Yes, it’s crowded. But it’s also where you see how brands are really showing up — the good, the weird, and the “who approved this?” Don’t skip the smaller talks. 📣 The big names are incredible (I would absolutely sit front row for Steven Spielberg). But some of the most inspiring and practical ideas I’ve heard came from smaller rooms with people actually doing the work. Go to the shows. 🎤 What other marketing festival lets you see top-tier comics and major recording artists on the same badge your company paid way too much for? That’s definitely not happening at CES. Over the years I’ve seen Natasha Leggero, Marc Maron, and SZA. I’ve also seen Anna Kendrick drop it on the dance floor at a premiere party. If you get the chance… do that too. And most importantly: get outside your box. 🔎 I’m a digital marketer, but SXSW is where I learned the most about experiential, events, and outdoor marketing. The entire city becomes a living brand experience, and it’s incredible to see ideas come to life in ways that digital alone never could. When you get back (likely full of queso), share what you learned. That’s the thing about SXSW. You go for the panels. You stay for the tacos. And you come back with stories you weren’t expecting. Below, check out some basics from the fine folks behind the fest.

For the Love of Creatives

Launching a new creative hub as the pandemic hit could have been the end of the story. For Art on Main Dallas founder Andrea Lamarsaude, it was the beginning of a different one. In this moment from #015 of For the Love of Creatives, Andrea talks about her “bull” nature: once she gets an idea, she just keeps going. Instead of shutting Art on Main down and waiting “until it was over,” she pivoted to Zoom as a godsend, kept meeting with artists, and continued building the community that now fills the gallery and studios in East Dallas. It is a quiet but powerful example of creative resilience and leadership during crisis: protect the vision, adapt the delivery, and stay in relationship with your people. 🎧 Full episode: “#015: Andrea Lamarsaude: Creativity Requires Community as Much as Solitude” 🔗 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘰𝘧𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘥𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘵.𝘤𝘰𝘮/𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢-𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘦 In your work, what is one way you turned what could have been a shutdown into a sustainable pivot that still serves you today?

Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States, announced America By Design (http://americabydesign.gov), a national initiative to improve the user experience and functionality of government services through a newly established National Design Studio and a Chief Design Officer. What does it mean for government services to be “beautifully designed”? When state power deliberately adopts a design language or aesthetic sensibility, the question is not only about usability but motivation. Design is never neutral. https://lnkd.in/ehFRF75Q
