Will Tidey posted thisHi all, after taking a short break to refresh, I'm starting my search for what's next professionally. Looking for a leadership role in digital partnerships/strategy/content at a company with big plans for 2023 and beyond. Could be soccer/sports, could be something else entirely. Any and all leads/intros most appreciated.

Will Tidey posted thisIn 2010, I answered a Craigslist ad and applied to work for an ambitious little outfit called Bleacher Report. Today, 12.5 years at B/R comes to an end. I couldn't be more grateful for the many great people I was lucky enough to work with, and the many lessons I've learned from them. Now it's time for something new.

Will Tidey posted thisQatar 2022 should never have happened, that is obvious. What it means for US/Mexico/Canada 2026, is the opportunity to unite the world with the most inclusive celebration of the global game we've ever seen. It's a huge responsibility, as it should be. But what an incredible opportunity to deliver a tournament that truly embraces its fans, when we needed it most.

For my entire career I've used 'David' 👉 Business cards 👉 Email signatures 👉 LinkedIn profile 👉 Letters 👉 WhatsApp 👉 Social media 👉 Any other place I that needed my full name I'd convinced myself that 'David' sounded more professional But lets face it, it's completely irrelevant So from this day forth, it will be Dave, or 'FX Dave' if you feel like jazzing it up The photo below is of David, but he's long gone now I think that's best for everyone✌️

Will Tidey liked thisWill Tidey liked thisThe best is yet to come. I use this statement often because of the optimism I have for nCino, its opportunities for continued growth, and the unique position the company holds to truly help financial institutions enter a new era - one that’s fueled by meaningful innovation and activated by data and AI. To power this new era, I am excited to announce the appointment of Sean Desmond as President and Chief Executive Officer of nCino, Inc.. I will continue to remain actively engaged with nCino as Executive Chairman of the Board and support Sean through a smooth transition, but I am confident that he is the right leader to drive the next chapter of growth and innovation, and fulfill nCino’s vision for an intelligent platform that delivers meaningful business outcomes to financial institutions globally through our market-leading data and AI initiatives. His strong appreciation for employees, customers, and partners sets a clear and exciting path as nCino continues to lead and evolve in a rapidly changing financial services industry. As my time as CEO ends, I want to say thank you to nCino’s employees, partners, customers and shareholders for all that we have accomplished together these past 13 years. It has truly been a remarkable experience and privilege to be on this journey together. You can read more in the press release we issued today, which also includes the news that Christopher Gufford has been named nCino’s next Chief Product Officer. Will Tidey liked thisWill Tidey liked thisMy time at Snack Media/Valnet has come to an end. Over the last 15 months, I've had the opportunity to meet and work with amazingly talented and generous people. I would like to thank them for their support; I learned a lot. This also means I'm in the market for new opportunities. With over 20 years of experience in sports media, I believe I could help a wide range of different organisations. I have experience leading editorial, social, video, and design teams and have worked in senior positions with a governing body (FIFA), a social-first publisher (B/R Football), a web-first publisher (Snack), and a broadcaster (Eurosport). Ultimately, with my new position, I'm looking for a 'home' where I can make a long-term impact. Somewhere that fosters a spirit of creativity and collaboration. A place where I can use my vast experience to execute content solutions while also learning new skills from other talented and humble people. With any job, the culture inside the building is far more important to me than the name on the door. So if you think I could help out your organisation either now or in the future, or if you see a role you think might be suitable for me, do reach out. I'm very open when it comes to exploring new opportunities, whether it be with a publisher, a governing body, a club/team, or an agency. I'm even interested in exploring opportunities outside of sport. I'm also available to help out on a shorter-term basis as a freelance or a consultant. So if you need help with an upcoming event, an impending RFP, or just want some advice and solutions on how to improve your content operations, I would be delighted to chat. I'm going to take this time to make some new contacts while also hopefully reconnecting with some old ones. So if you fancy a chat—either virtually or in person over a coffee or a beer—do get in touch.

Will Tidey liked thisWill Tidey liked thisOver a 20 year period, missing the best 10 days in the market can impact returns by over 50%!!! That's right, 10 out of 7300 days make all the difference. I think the same thing can be said for the 10 best people you chose to align yourself with. In 2023 I was lucky enough to meet or reengage with some fantastic people. People that have given me some amazing guidance, or that have introduced me to some incredible contacts of their own. A lot of times this came from simply grabbing every opportunity I could to connect people within my network, especially when it had no immediate benefit to me. We all have thousands of connections on here, but the real magic comes from zooming out, taking a look at who you know, then connecting them with people they otherwise may never come in contact with. Try connecting two people a day for the rest of the week. I guarantee you will have new opportunities in your inbox by CoB on Friday.

Will Tidey liked thisWill Tidey liked thisToday marks the end of our time in London. After two and a half years of unforgettable experiences, it's time to head back to North Carolina. Thanks to Natalia Moose for allowing us to embark on this adventure. I return home with a master's degree in football coaching and analysis, along with cherished memories of working with Southampton FC and Foxes FC. Big thanks go to Ellis Wilmot for welcoming me to Saint's London talent centre and giving me the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Geoff Harrop for a while. It was truly inspiring to witness the development of so many talented players, several of whom secured Academy registrations. The numerous trips to Staplewood for matches and CPD courses were incredibly special, and it was a privilege to coach alongside Academy staff at Arsenal and Spurs. I am particularly grateful to Steve King for his mentorship and dedication to my coach development efforts. Best of luck to the SERC staff (Luke Bennet, Natalie Crosby (MSc, BSc Hons, MSST), Abbas Yassin & Jamie Alexander)to keep the centre flourishing! It was an honor to be a part of the thriving Foxes FC. I am thankful to James Long for allowing me to step in as a coach and coach developer, and for welcoming August into Hassan Junaid's U12s. Co-coaching the U16's with Tristan Mackay at Gothia Cup was an awesome experience. I look forward to staying connected through Foxes' partnership with AUG 90. I'm eager to explore new opportunities, but I'm also excited to offer AUG 90's individual analysis services from across the pond. If any former pro players, top coaches, or soccer-specific sales/marketing professionals are interested in collaborating, it would be great to connect. Thank you to everyone who made our time in the UK so memorable!

Life With Sir Alex: A Fan's Story of Ferguson's 25 Years at Manchester United

But it is also a book about what it has meant to be a Manchester United supporter during the remarkable 25-year reign of Sir Alex Ferguson.
The book begins in the winter of 1986 - when Sir Alex found himself in charge of a demoralised club facing relegation - and describes the creation of his first great side, including Schmeichel, Bruce, Pallister, Keane, Ince, Giggs, Hughes and Cantona.
It goes on to introduce Fergie's Fledglings - the generation of David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Gary and Phil Neville - who were thrown straight into Ferguson's side as teenagers, won the double in 1995 and went on to seal the treble in Barcelona in 1999.
It then describes how, after Beckham left for Real Madrid in 2003, United were knocked off their perch first by Arsenal, then by cash-rich Chelsea. Ferguson needed a response to Jose Mourinho's spectacular revolution ... And in Rooney and Ronaldo, playing alongside Rio Ferdinand, Scholes, Giggs, Tevez and Vidic, he found one.
As much an homage to a great man as it is a passionate account of one fan's lifelong devotion to his team, Life with Sir Alex is a the perfect read for football fans all over the world.

Watching the Alabama vs Georgia game tonight and the shot-clock malfunction has completely disrupted the flow of the game. Multiple stoppages, clock resets, and lengthy reviews highlight how technology failures can impact live sports operations in real time. In a billion-dollar sports industry, game-clock reliability and arena tech infrastructure matter more than most fans realize. Even small technical issues can affect competitive flow, broadcast timing, and fan experience. Sports operations may not always be visible—but moments like this show how critical they are. #SportsBusiness #CollegeBasketball #SportsOperations #GameDayOperations #SportsTech

Momentous Sports's Marley Hughes latest newsletter examines the behavioral economic impact of cashless transactions at sports venues using AMB Sports and Entertainment as a case study. His primary insight is that fans "spent significantly more while reporting higher satisfaction levels" is particularly compelling for #sportsbiz leaders given there is usually an inverse correlation between increases in price and fan satisfaction. I highlighted a similar dynamic when examining the increase in Major League Baseball (MLB) attendance during the 2023 season by spotlighting cashless transactions as catalyst for league attendance growth in a JohnWallStreet column. https://lnkd.in/gVCP9akk

NILENT (NIL Enterprise… • 5K followers
The conversation around NIL continues to evolve, and recent comments from former Alabama head coach Nick Saban during the President's college sports roundatable highlight a reality many in college athletics are grappling with. For decades, the mission of college sports was clear: help prepare young athletes for success in life — through personal development, academic support, mentorship, and structure. As Coach Saban recently said, that mission has become increasingly difficult to execute in the current NIL environment. And he’s right. But the answer isn’t resisting NIL. The answer is building the right infrastructure around it. That’s exactly why we created NILENT (NIL Enterprise Solutions). NILENT exists to ensure student-athletes don’t just participate in NIL — they understand it, manage it, and grow from it. Our platform focuses on the pillars that actually determine long-term success: • Financial literacy • Mental health and emotional wellness • Personal brand development • Career transition preparation • Responsible partnership with brands NIL was never supposed to replace development — it was supposed to enhance opportunity. With the right education and structure, it absolutely can. If college athletics wants to protect what Coach Saban fought for — preparing athletes for success long after the final whistle — then education, guidance, and accountability must sit at the center of NIL. That’s the mission of NILENT (NIL Enterprise Solutions). And we’re just getting started. Reach out if you want to be a part of the solutions not complaining about the problems. #SavingCollegeSports #NIL #NickSaban

Sports Fans! You might have seen it in The New York Times and Reuters – Nielsen's really shaking things up with their new TV measurement for sports. And honestly, it's a pretty big deal for figuring out who's actually watching. Take a moment to learn WHY it matters: 1️⃣ "Big Data + Panel" National TV Measurement - We have gone way beyond the old way of doing things. Now, Nielsen is pulling in "Big Data" from millions of households (think cable, satellite, smart TVs) and even direct streaming data for live events. That's 45 million households and 75 million digital devices. The goal is to get a super accurate, comprehensive view of who's watching. 2️⃣ Expanded "Out-of-Home" (OOH) Measurement - This is huge for sports! OOH now covers 100% of the U.S. TV population, up from 66% last year. We're talking bars, restaurants, hotels, airports – all those places where sports viewership thrives but was always a bit of a blind spot. Well, no more! So, WHY is this so important for the sports industry? ✅More Accurate Viewership - Industry folks predicted a 3-8% viewership bump for sports. Early reports are showing a 4% rise in NFL viewership just from the "Big Data + Panel" alone, and a low double-digit lift when OOH is included. ✅Monetization Impact - These numbers directly impact how much ad revenue sports broadcasts bring in as well as a better understanding of the value of league, team and broadcast sponsorships. More accurate data means a clearer picture of the audience's value. ✅Football Impact Better Understood - OOH measurement, especially, has really shown a positive impact on college football viewership, filling in those historical gaps. Even for a powerhouse like the NFL, these updates are giving us a more refined understanding of its audience. Bottomline is this, at Nielsen we believe Big Data + Panel is delivering the most accurate measurement to date for sports and TV overall. These advancements are really crucial for getting a complete picture of how people are engaging with content in today's fragmented viewing world. Message me to learn more! A recent #WNBA piece I wrote... #MLB, #NBA and #NHL teams are dealing with uncertainty regarding the status of #FanDuel's regional sports networks. #MainStreet Sports Group, which owns the FanDuel channels, recently lost the rights to nine of the #MLB teams it aired - and this is leading to teams considering a direct-to-consumer model. There is plenty to criticize the W for - but its teams do deserve foresight in seeing the looming regional sports saga for what it was. At last check, only the #MinnesotaLynx and #IndianaFever had games air on a FanDuel channel last season. #WelcomeToTheW https://lnkd.in/erUu8VZ6

That’s a wrap on another outstanding IMG x RedBird Summit. Our ambition was to go bigger, bolder, and more impactful — challenging ourselves and our industry to raise the game. Thanks to the incredible leaders who joined us, that’s exactly what we delivered. We set ourselves a bold three-year ambition — and now, with that achieved, we’re raising the bar again with next year’s showcase event set for New York. Some standout moments: TKO Deep Dive: Mark Shapiro, Nick Khan, Lillian Rizzo and I explored how UFC, WWE, IMG, On Location and PBR are rewriting the rules on a global scale. The Evolution of Fandom: John Ourand led a powerful discussion with Justin Connolly, Dany Garcia, Sally Horrox and Hillary Mandel on personalisation, cultural alignment, and fan-first strategies to unlock new value. Broadcasting Reimagined: Gerry Cardinale, Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards reflected on reshaping sports coverage with their iconic CBS Sports work and the growth of football in the U.S. AI & Data Frontiers: Charlie Neiman, Lorrissa Horton, Sepi Motamedi and Barney Francis — with Josh Noble — shared how AI, data and storytelling will redefine fan experiences and monetisation. Athlete Storytelling: Tom Daley, Rollo Goldstaub, Jérôme Parmentier and Lewis Wiltshire, with Imani Lansiquot explored how athletes connect with the next generation through social platforms. Tennis Momentum: Andrea Gaudenzi, Marina S., Lewis Sherr and Danny Townsend, with Christopher Williams, tackled how to align stakeholders and centralise rights to unlock growth. Driven by Innovation: Brandon Snow, Flavio Briatore and Derek Chang broke down Formula 1’s blend of heritage and innovation in redefining modern sport. Our keynotes set the tone from start to finish — thanks to the vision of Zoe Scaman and the outstanding hosting of Kelly Cates Thank you to all our clients, partners and guests, to RedBird Capital Partners, and to our brilliant team at IMG. Until next time — see you in New York. #IMG #RedBird #IMGxRedBird #RaisingTheGame #SportsBusiness #AI

Here’s a hard truth for brands and investors entering youth sports in 2026. The fastest way to waste money is to treat it like a one-season test. You can test youth sports. You just have to test the right thing. Don’t test logo visibility. Test whether you earned trust. The partners who win show up consistently. Same places. Same promise. Same follow-through. That’s when families start asking for you. That’s when properties plan around you. That’s when renewals get easier. That pattern shows up every year on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Consistency beats novelty every time. #youthsports #sportsbusiness #partnerships

📉 Reporting declining subscriber numbers for the second quarter in a row (currently standing at 24.1M subscribers), plateauing since early 2023, and now back to levels not seen ever once The Disney Bundle launched more than three years ago (of which ESPN+ was the main beneficiary): ESPN+ may have outlived its utility in the United States as a stand-alone streaming service, especially in case UFC’s pay-per-view events go elsewhere by the end of the year (Netflix 👀). At the same time, it served its dual-purpose ever since it launched in 2019: • ⚙️ Testing ground for product and tech as well as commercial teams (moving from B2B to B2C skill- and mindset) for when linear ESPN would inevitably untether from the traditional multi-channel video programming bundle. • 📺 🖥️📱Enabling a platform-agnostic distribution mix across free-to-air networks, pay cable/satellite-TV channels, and OTT streaming that maximizes reach when bidding for sports rights — without undermining its golden (linear) goose. #ESPNPlus would have been the ideal name for the new ESPN flagship streaming service, perfectly describing to consumers what to expect: ESPN as you know it from linear television, and much more. ESPN+ has a different association nowadays: everything what didn’t make the limited shelf space on its linear channels plus UFC pay-per-view events. #ESPN will be the simple name for the company’s new streaming service — clear and straightforward customer promise and expectation setting. That ESPN’s digital platform goes with the time and becomes more interactive and innovative, and may have some extra content beyond the linear channels, shouldn’t warrant any made-up new name. It doesn’t get bigger and more valuable than “ESPN” in terms brand.
