Alex Pall from the Chainsmokers has the side quest of the century. Did you know that he and Drew built an early-stage venture capital fund? Cause I didn't. Mantis Venture Capital is a $225 million venture capital firm. They focuses on B2B and deeply technical startups like cybersecurity and AI infrastructure. We had the chance to chat at RSA this year about Mantis and where they're headed next. If two world-famous DJ's can break into cybersecurity and fall in love with it - you can absolutely take that first step into tech. P.S. have you gone on a side quest lately??

I didn't know anything about tech before I started. But that was in the days of 💾, so I don't know if that counts😆

I found this to be insightful because the people around me who make the biggest career jumps are usually the ones willing to look silly as beginners for a while.

What's interesting about Mantis Venture Capital is how it highlights the trend of non-traditional investors entering the tech space, bringing fresh perspectives and networks to the table, but also raising questions about the role of domain expertise in venture capital - can passion and resources alone be enough to drive success in deeply technical fields like cybersecurity and AI infrastructure?

the side quest framing is the part that lands. spent the last year building voice agents on the side while doing other work, and the off cycle stuff is usually where the actual learning happens.
