For PharmaBoardroom, the Foundation’s CEO, Jayasree Iyer, writes about what it will take to shape the next century of diabetes care. She notes that, a hundred years after insulin’s discovery, half of those who need it still go without, with children in low- and middle-income countries among the hardest hit. Jay argues that only systemic, long-term collaboration between industry, governments and investors can close this access gap, not one-off donations or market-driven innovation alone. The future of diabetes care depends on choices made now. Will the next century of breakthroughs serve all patients, or just those who can pay? Imagine bringing healthcare right to the doorstep of students — before illness even begins. That’s exactly what we did at T.I. Amass Senior High School, where OKB Hope Foundation, in partnership with Embrace Society and Lead for Ghana, provided free medical screenings and breast cancer screening and awareness for students. In a world where many wait until they’re sick to seek help, we believe in a different approach — one rooted in prevention, education, and empowerment. By teaching students about early detection and giving them access to screenings, we’re nurturing a generation that values their health and takes proactive steps to protect it. Together, we’re proving that healthcare doesn’t always have to begin in a hospital — sometimes, it begins in a classroom, in a conversation, and in the courage to care early. #OKBHopeFoundation #EmbraceSociety #LeadForGhana #PreventativeCare #BreastCancerAwareness #YouthHealth #HealthcareForAll #EarlyDetectionSavesLives

The Orphan Drug Act has been a catalyst for change in the rare disease space — creating powerful incentives that have driven innovation, research, and advocacy worldwide. This insightful piece by Rare 360 breaks down how policies like these have transformed the landscape of rare disease treatment — and why continued advocacy, equity, and global collaboration remain vital. At Care Beyond Limits – Microcephaly Africa Foundation, we are inspired to see such frameworks succeed and hope to see similar momentum grow across Africa, where many rare conditions remain undiagnosed and underrepresented. #RareDiseases #Advocacy #OrphanDrugAct #Microcephaly #CareBeyondLimits #GlobalHealth #Inclusion #Rare360 https://lnkd.in/emRG6UEv

Access to innovative cancer drugs is not just important — it is vital. For many cancer patients, especially those living with metastatic disease, time is not on their side. The need for a new treatment can arise suddenly — and when that treatment is not available in the public hospital, patients cannot afford the cost, neither time, to wait weeks, months.... Even options like changing to private hospitals - IF they have health insurance - or fundraising require time — and time is exactly what patients do not have. This is why Early Access matters so much. Well done, UCAN Ireland representanting patients and working to find solutions 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
An update on our pre budget visit to Leinster House, we are hopeful Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD will make provision for an early access program to help alleviate access issues alongside reform of the reimbursement process https://lnkd.in/eJrpuxkZ

In many countries where healthcare systems are under pressure, the 'right to be forgotten' for people who have experienced cancer is becoming increasingly important. The 'right to be forgotten' protects people who have had cancer from discrimination when returning to work, applying for financial services, or accessing insurance and health services. Prisca Githuka, Vice Chair of the Kenyan Network of Cancer Organizations of Cancer Organisations (KENCO), and Chris Cheng, President of the Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN) Advocacy and AwareNess (SCAN) in Malaysia, both UICC member organisations, are raising awareness about this crucial issue despite constrained resources. Hear from Prisca and Chris, two advocates who have both experienced cancer and associated discrimination, and barriers to accessing services. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eJnNdHVK #UICCmembers

Community voice matters: supporting Tuberculosis meningitis (TBM) caregivers at OUCRU Caring for children with TBM who require a long-term recovery journey can be challenging for many home caregivers, especially when support ends at hospital discharge. This challenge particularly affects people living in rural areas with limited literacy and fewer resources. To support a comprehensive patient-centred care approach, OUCRU TBM research group collaborated with OUCRU's Public and Community Engagement group to set up a TBM Community Advisory Board made up of parents and caregivers whose children are affected by TBM. The goal was to listen and understand what they are going through, and to discuss how we could translate health information into accessible, respectful, and useful home-care materials for home care. With this in mind, we developed an educational video and other resources not only to support caregivers. This partnership and activity also empowered our families them to take an active role in improving the care experience for others in similar situations. Watch the video below. Read more about our TBM Community Advisory Boards and other patient-centred projects at OUCRU and access useful materials in the comments and on OUCRU's website.
