Jim Carroll shared thisWonderful to have you on the team Bobbie Jo, you’ve jumped right in and made a great impact already!!!Jim Carroll shared thisKicking off a new job is like stepping onto a rollercoaster with a blindfold on - thrilling, a bit scary, and you're not quite sure if you're going to scream from excitement or panic. Now, imagine heading to Vegas to be part of the Global Field Kick-Off, barely a few days in. That's not just upping the ante; it's like the rollercoaster decided to loop-the-loop with you clinging on for dear life! But, as luck would have it, I’ve stumbled upon a team so fantastic and leadership so inspiring, it feels like diving into a pool of marshmallows - unexpected, a bit squishy, but ultimately a soft landing. Couldn't have made a better choice if I tried! Thank you Benjamin Harris, Jim Carroll, Paul Golding, Khyati Patel, Sarah Cropp, and John Beaudoin for making me feel so welcomed to this amazing team!

Jim Carroll liked thisDismissed with Prejudice Quietly, over the last several months, an important fight was being held. Darius Lahoutifard of MEDDIC Academy had trademarked MEDDPICC and was claiming ownership to all the trademark rights. Trademark owners usually possess the exclusive right to use their mark to prevent others from using their mark or similar marks. Key rights typically include enforcing ownership against infringers, licensing the mark and potentially owning the mark indefinitely. Andy Whyte, CEO of MEDDICC Ltd decided to stand his ground since trademark infringement was a threat to his MEDDICC training and consulting business. I decided to join Andy and I acted as the expert witness. I believed it was important to represent the greater B2B Sales community in defense of MEDDPICC and MEDDIC. I believe that MEDDPICC and MEDDIC should be used freely throughout the sales world as a generic, industry term. It was my opinion that any attempt to assert exclusive rights would likely stifle a sales language that has become a meaningful sales industry communication, force unneeded change within the numerous companies utilizing MEDDPICC and MEDDIC, and cause nothing but unwanted confusion in the B2B Sales world. And last week we won! A United States District Court ruled that MEDDPICC, is a generic term, widely adopted as a B2B sales qualification methodology and cannot be owned as a trademark. Chief Judge Wendy Beetlestone ordered the United States Patent and Trademark Office to cancel Registration No. 6,489,058, held by Darius Lahoutifard of 01 Consulting LLC, doing business as MEDDIC Academy. The court found that Lahoutifard was not involved in MEDDPICC's conception, yet after almost 30 years after the genesis of MEDDIC at PTC in the early 1990’s, and the creation of MEDDPICC in 2005, he federally registered the MEDDPICC term as his trademark in 2020. The court granted Andy Whyte’s company and MEDDICC Ltd motion for summary judgment in full on the trademark claims and dismissed every counterclaim brought by Darius Lahoutifard with prejudice. MEDDPICC and MEDDIC are free to be used by the sales community as they were originally intended.

Today, Jeetu Patel is the President and Chief Product Officer of Cisco, leading 40,000+ engineers and re-founding one of the most iconic technology companies on the planet. I just sat down with him for one of the most honest conversations I've ever had on the podcast. And three things he said are still sitting with me. 1. Failure was never an option. Not in the motivational poster sense. In the literal sense. He had a mother in India depending on him financially. There was no safety net. That singular pressure became his greatest advantage. It burned away distraction and left only focus. 2. He taught himself to type in 72 hours. He went from 20 words a minute to 90. Just typed for three days straight. And the lesson wasn't about typing. It was the moment he realised: Whatever I choose to learn, I can learn. That "learn it all" mentality has carried him through every role since — including ones he had zero experience for. 3. Let your work speak. Stop networking. If you know all the big people.. But your work doesn't stand for something.. None of them can help you. But if your work is excellent, people will seek you out. In a world obsessed with personal branding and visibility, that's a deeply unfashionable position. And he's living proof that it works. What struck me most was how openly Jeetu talked about imposter syndrome, insecurity, and the loneliness that comes with leading at this scale. He said something I think every leader needs to hear: Most people won't tell you when you're wrong. Not because they're dishonest. Because they don't want to risk offending you. So you have to deliberately find the people who will be brutally honest. And then actually listen. This is one of those episodes where I walked away thinking differently. You can tell within 90 seconds whether someone prepared a point of view or filled in a template. And it’s usually the same template, format and agenda every quarter. With the same result. Here’s what I see in most QBRs, and how you can make them impactful.

Because right now, the same money is moving between the same players in a circle… OpenAI spends billions on NVIDIA. NVIDIA invests back into OpenAI. Microsoft funds OpenAI and resells its outputs. Amazon and Google do the same with Anthropic. Some call it a virtuous cycle…. while others call it what it looks like 🔄 I've been in AI since 2011, and I’ve watched hype cycles rise and collapse, but the infrastructure this time is real. Whether the returns will ever match the investment? That's the question nobody's answering honestly… And if they don't, most leaders won't see it coming. This is the kind of noise I cut through weekly for a small group of execs and founders who actually want the truth. No vendor spin, no hype. Just what's actually happening and what it means for you… #ai #tech #aistrategy #investing #futureofwork

Jim Carroll reacted on thisJim Carroll reacted on thisTwo weeks ago I started writing about the blind spot in retirement planning. Since then, many of you have shared your own experiences—the fears, the gaps, the question you can't answer at the dinner party. I heard from people in every kind of career who quietly realized they, or someone they know, had a wealth plan but no retirement (life) plan. Today I'm opening access to what I've been building. The Retirement Strategy (TRS) is an AI-powered assessment that evaluates your readiness across all six dimensions: Health, Wealth, People, Place, Passion, and Purpose. It's not a survey. It's a conversation—a structured dialogue that maps where you stand, surfaces the gaps you can't see from inside your career, and produces a personalized Retirement Blueprint with scores backed by behavioral evidence, and suggests experiments you can run as well as next steps you might take to build a winning retirement plan. TRS is a strategic assessment — not medical or financial advice. It's an honest mirror — not a feel-good quiz. And it's a starting point, not the finish line. It's for anyone who wants a fulfilling retirement and isn't convinced they've got it all figured out — whether that's one year away or twenty. It can take as little as 20 minutes depending on how detailed you want to be. And TRS is completely free. No credit card. No catch. You get a full Retirement Readiness Profile and a personalized Blueprint. I get the anonymized data to make the assessment more valuable for more people. The link is in the first comment — try the public beta and let me know what you find. If you go through it, I'd genuinely love your feedback. The whole point of doing this is to help people avoid the mistakes most of us have seen others make. We invest too much time, money and energy to reach retirement to not have a strategy for crushing it.

Jim Carroll reacted on thisJim Carroll reacted on thisWe went from zero help with recruitment to working with the best in the business. That should tell you everything about how important this role is. We're looking for a leader to build and run our Services division at MEDDICC. Not a "nice to have" hire. A force multiplier 🔥. Our customers already use our products to embed MEDDPICC as the common language across their entire GTM motion, sales, marketing, customer success, channel, and leadership - powered by our MEDDICC Value framework across the full customer lifecycle. Now we're building an entire division to take that even further. This leader will define the vision, build the team, and create a services function that amplifies everything our platform already delivers. The opportunity is to architect something from the ground up that helps our customers turn MEDDPICC from something they've adopted into the language and value system that underpins the entire GTM motion. We brought in Orama to help us find this person because we refuse to get this wrong. They operate in our world. They know what good looks like. And they hold the same bar we do. If you're the kind of person who sees a blank canvas and gets excited, not intimidated. If you obsess over customer outcomes. If you've got the craft, the clock speed, and the craving to build something that doesn't exist yet, we'd LOVE to hear from you. I can't think of a more exciting role for the right person. Especially right now, with where we are in technology, our proposition, and what we're building for our customers. Hit me up. Or please share this with someone you think should see it 🙏

Jim Carroll reacted on thisJim Carroll reacted on thisMost people quit on people too soon. Steve Jobs once got asked: ‘What have you learned at Apple?’ He paused, smiled, and said: ‘I now take a longer-term view on people’ Early in his career, his instinct was to “fix it” fast. Swap someone out. Hire better. Move on. But over time he realized: Some of the best people don’t look like it at first. They stumble, they learn slow, they test your patience. But given time, they compound. Naval puts it simply: “Play long-term games with long-term people.” That’s what long-term leadership is. Not just building products or companies. But giving people the space to become who they can be.

This is a no-brainer for anyone involved in #CPQ. Great value at a low price — whether you're evaluating solutions, already using CPQ, implementing it for clients, or tracking the market as an investor. I write these briefings based on direct vendor conversations, and the library is only going to keep growing. Well worth checking out.

Growth

If you’re selling into manufacturing and still relying on spreadsheets, tribal knowledge, and guesswork… you’re leaving serious revenue on the table. Manufacturing sales is a whole different beast — complex buyers, long deal cycles, and a LOT of technical stakeholders in the mix. But here’s the thing: when AI meets the right HubSpot strategy? You can 12x your pipeline (yes, twelve). In our latest article, we break down how manufacturers are rebuilding their sales stacks — ditching the chaos of siloed systems and slow cycles — with tools that actually align teams and accelerate deals. Here’s a taste of what happens when you get it right: → 100% growth in pipeline within 6 months → 38% shorter sales cycles → 12x increase in sales-qualified leads From AI-powered lead scoring to sales dashboards built for quoting velocity — this is what Manufacturing Sales 2.0 looks like. If you’re trying to close bigger deals, faster (with less chaos along the way)… this one’s for you. 👉 Read the full article: https://hubs.la/Q03L_njC0 #manufacturing #salesops #hubspot #ai #growthstrategy

Sales comp gets complicated fast. And once it does, it usually stops doing its job. Hear from David Nelson and our latest guest on The Revenue Optimists, ☁️ Cliff Simon, on: 😵💫 How complex commission structures distract reps from selling 🫨 Why “edge case” logic often creates more problems than it solves ✅ And how clearer, simpler plans can improve execution and predictability If reps need help explaining how they get paid, it’s probably time to simplify. #salesops

If you're a solo MSP owner planning your exit, do you worry about "key-man risk?" You can still sell. It all comes down to creative deal structure (think earnouts) and a solid transition plan. Don't let this myth stop you from exploring M&A. We debunk this and 4 other common misconceptions. #MSPOwners #MSPBroker #KeymanRisk #Acquisition https://lnkd.in/gv8ahgJG

A recent GTM pulse survey shared on the Innovative Revenue Leader podcast revealed a major perception gap inside revenue teams. Executives believe growth is happening. Sellers feel the pressure and are far less optimistic. The episode dives into: • Where AI is actually helping sellers today • Why sales effectiveness tops seller priorities • Why alignment still struggles when it matters most If you are thinking about sales performance, AI investment, or closing the gap between strategy and execution, this is a strong listen. You’re being told to “work harder” instead of being taught how to work smarter. So let’s challenge this nonsense. Stop rewarding empty actions. Stop treating "busy work" as progress. Stop letting outdated KPIs dictate how you sell. #NeubergerCo #SandlerMDGA #SalesKPIs
